Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra rehearsing together again – Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 2021-09-14 12:54:00 –

All sections of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra have been in full force on Tuesday for the first rehearsal with the full orchestra since the beginning of the pandemic. See the report from Heinz Hall on the video player above. The full orchestra has not been rehearsed together for 18 months. Their first performance is this Friday’s Gala, raising funds for orchestra learning and community engagement programs. “Just listening to the opening of the rehearsal, only the loud noises heard from the stage actually wept,” said Melia Tourango, president and chief executive officer. This week marks the 50th anniversary of the dedication of Heinz Hall as the home of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. The building has recently undergone a $ 3.8 million renovation. There are also new COVID-19 mitigation requirements within the building. This includes vaccination obligations for qualified persons who wish to enter the building. Allegheny County currently has high levels of COVID-19 infection, so buildings must wear masks indoors as well. Tourango called Tuesday’s rehearsal “historic.” “Actually, last year, 25 people were able to attend the entire Heinz Hall this time,” she said. “So it was a bit strange, to be honest, a little ironic, but very exciting to go on stage today and see 100 musicians on a stage that isn’t socially distant.”
