Pizzeria DiLauro will Bring Classic New York-Style Pies and Slices to Chagrin Falls – Cleveland, Ohio

Pizza lovers in northeastern Ohio have been acquainted with Adam Dilauro and his pies for three years, thanks to the Pizzeria Dilauro Food Truck, a mobile trailer with a built-in wood-burning oven. Last winter, Dilauro parked his rig and refocused his attention on a physical pizzeria of the same name. Opening in early to mid-February in Chaglin Falls, the Peatzeria Dilauro (17800 Chillicothe Rd., 440-384-3947) brings a touch of the East Coast to the Far East.

“I tend not to call myself New York style,” explains Dilauro. “From a trip to New York City, Philadelphia, New Jersey, we came up with the term East Coast inspired because there are pizzerias like this in every corner, and Cleveland doesn’t have them. There are a lot of East Coast transplants that really need that pizza. I couldn’t find it, so I decided to open it. ”

Dilauro is only a few weeks after opening the door. Diner Cafe Michael lived in this space for about 10 years. Upon opening, Peatzeria di Lauro abandons its roots as a Neapolitan-style peatzeria and instead focuses on traditional 18-inch New York-style pies baked in a stone-deck oven.

“We’ve always liked New York style pizza, but Neapolitan pizza doesn’t work very well,” says Dilauro. “I wanted to make a pizza that would reach people’s homes in better condition. That was my ultimate goal.”

Pizza purists will appreciate DiLauro’s technique for producing well-made, crispy bottom pies with plenty of Parmesan cheese. To prevent overload, the toppings are limited to 4 per pizza. These whole pies are added to the menu by a thicker 12×16 inch Sicilian-style bread pizza, some salads and appetizers, and a trio of Italian, meatballs, sausages, and peppers.

Like all corner shops on the East Coast, Peatzeria di Lauro will only have a counter service. There are about 30 seats for those who want to sit and eat. At lunchtime, this place acts as a classic slice shop. Here, the order is returned to the oven, quickly reheated, and randomly served on a white paper plate.

“Reheating is great,” says Di Lauro. “I love pizza cooked twice. That’s me.”
