Pilot David T. Evans approached the funnel cloud in western Oklahoma on Sunday.
While the Green Country was dry, western Oklahoma dealt with heavy thunderstorms scattered in the afternoon and evening. There was enough wind shear (rotation) in the atmosphere to form a funnel.
Evans’ wife told Two News that she was flying between Minko and Tuttle, southwest of Oklahoma City. Norman’s National Weather Service has yet to say that even if it touches the ground, it will officially be a tornado.
The storm system then moved from south to north Texas in the evening and disappeared.
