Plum, PA (KDKA) – Mayor of Plum candidate Sean Marcelino collapsed during a softball game on Tuesday night and died suddenly.
“Knowing Sean was to love Sean. To be honest, I don’t know anyone who doesn’t love him,” said Michael Devine, a longtime friend of Marcelino and chairman of the Plum Board of Education. ..
Divine said Marcelino began to feel chest pain during the match and eventually collapsed. According to Martino’s family, a 40-year-old man had a ruptured aorta.
Martino’s family said in a statement:
“What started as another softball game quickly turned bad. He sat down and forgot his feelings, easily complaining of chest pain. When he noticed he had fallen. Both teams tried their best to help him. He went in and out of consciousness until the ambulance arrived and couldn’t do anything more. He suffered from an aortic rupture. Sean did what he liked. He died while his last at-bat was recorded as a hit. “
“It’s a crush on the planet. I don’t know how to explain it elsewhere. I’ve been waiting awake and find it a bad bad dream, but unfortunately , That’s very realistic, “Divine said.
Martino was a great man and was always known to be by his side for others.
“It’s fun, adorable, always smiling, always laughing,” Divine said.
Martino is passionate about softball and has played with several teams each year. On Tuesday night he was playing for the Living Ward Church team. A church member made a cross with a softball bat and placed it behind a home plate on the church ground.
“He was playing six or seven days a week. He liked it. He loves sports and comes to see my kids playing softball all the time. He I loved being around the game, “Divine said.
Martino was also keen on the campaign in hopes of becoming the next mayor of Plum. He was a Democratic candidate and opposed Republican Mayor Harry Schlegel.
“He wanted to serve the community. He wanted to do the right thing for the community. He wanted everyone in Plum to be represented and everyone in Plum to have a say. I was there, “said Divine.
At the baseball stadium, in the election campaign, with loved ones everywhere, memories with Marcelino will never be forgotten.
“He was always the first to appear at the party and the last to leave. He was there for everyone right away,” Divine said.
“Shaun joined our church softball team in May. He was a very nice addition to our team. We were all overwhelmed by what happened, but he was in the community. I am grateful to have spent the season as part of the softball team, and to Sean’s dedication to community service running for Mayor Plum, “said Rev. Alan of Living Ward Church. Told KDKA.
