Wichita, Kansas (AP) — Retired firefighters angry with the city’s Mask Ordinance were arrested Friday on suspicion of threatening to kidnap and kill the mayor of Wichita, officials said.
Police said the 59-year-old suspect could face alleged criminal threats, Wichitaigle reported.
Mayor Brandon Whipple of Wichita said he asked about the mayor’s address and read a text message received by another city official who threatened his life.
“He said he was going to kidnap me and cut my throat. He was my servant because I had to meet the hangman, that is, everyone doing something about me and tyranny. I needed an address, “whippedle said.
“The person seems very angry about his duty to mask and said something about not being able to see his mother because of COVID restrictions on Elderly Housing with Care,” he said.
Wichita police spokesman Charley Davidson said the agency is investigating the threat and so far it is not believed that other local officials have been targeted.
