Honolulu (KHON2) — Police and ambulances responded to Halawa correctional facilities on Thursday afternoon after reports of multiple prisoners in an emergency.
KHON2 witnessed an emergency response personnel wearing bulletproof vests before entering the facility.

Five ambulances were requested, according to Dr. Jim Ireland, Honolulu’s EMS director. There are also multiple tents and command tracks.
Dr. Ireland said seven sick patients were transferred for treatment of an unknown medical condition. Two are in serious condition and five are in stable condition. The cause of their illness has not yet been clarified.
A Honolulu Police Department spokesperson told KHON2 that the Hawaii Department of Public Safety is leading the investigation.
