Police in Arlington, Virginia, arrested a man last week who said they had attacked and strangled a woman on a promenade around Colonial Village.

22-year-old Marquis Holmes, whose address has not been determined, was arrested Wednesday night after police responded to reports of suspicious individuals at 1500 blocks on N. Pierce Street, about a 15-minute walk from where the woman was attacked. ..

In a news release, police said Holmes had already been identified as a suspect in the attack.

Holmes was charged with strangulation and kidnapping with the intention of desecrating. He is being detained at the Arlington County Detention Facility.

The attack occurred around 7 pm on April 13.

The woman told police she was on the 1800-block walkway on N. Uhle Street when the man approached her from behind and wrapped a rope or cord tightly around her neck. When I tried to loosen the rope, I fell to the ground and the man on it tried to strangle with my bare hands.

When the two witnesses came to help the woman, the man ran away. She was taken to the hospital but was not seriously injured.
