Virginia Beach police have told 10 On Your Side that parents and students will see additional patrols at school from 2021 to the end of the 2022 school year.

They revealed that the increase in patrols was the result of mass shootings at an elementary school in Texas, not a local threat.

Here is the complete statement from the city:

Due to the tragic events that took place at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, Virginia Beach Police Station will provide additional patrols around schools in our community until the end of the school year. VBPD is committed to protecting the safety of all schools and the safety of students, teachers and staff.
