Police Officer and Father of 4 Fighting for His Life After Contracting COVID – NECN – Boston, Massachusetts

Massachusetts police officers are fighting for his life after being hospitalized at COVID-19 last month.

On Tuesday night, Attleboro’s Jessica Des Fosses hugged two girls, 11-year-old Addison and 8-year-old Ella, during the most difficult times of her life.

Det. Sgt. Stephen Des Fosses, a veteran officer of the Norton Police Department with four fathers, has been hospitalized with the coronavirus at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston since the week before Christmas.

He is sedated with mechanical ventilation, dialysis, and machines that replace lung function.

“This happened very quickly and very unexpectedly,” said Jessica Desfosse. “It’s amazing that this has upset our lives.”

She says there was zero improvement in his lungs.

“His lungs are very stiff and very stiff. They neither expand nor contract at all,” she said. “They are very worried about the lack of improvement in his lungs, and unfortunately there are no other steps to take after this.”

She says they took the virus seriously and restricted their exposure, but believe they may have obtained COVID-19 while he was working as an officer.

StephenDesFosses also has asthma.

During this time, Jessica DesFosse says it was the community that passed them.

“Without this support, I couldn’t stand out here right now,” she said.

There is a policeman’s nightly caravan near their house. The community home has a blue light.

About $ 80,000 was raised to help the family, and there were words from people that Stephen Des Fosses helped.

“He’s done a lot for everyone over the years. To be honest, I don’t think he deserves this,” said Addison Des Fosses. “I don’t think anyone deserves this.”

Lieutenant Todd Jackson of Norton Police Station says Des Fosses has been with the police station for 30 years.

“Most of us worked with him throughout his career and made friends with him throughout his career,” he said.

Jessica and the kids can’t see him, so he records a message and plays it repeatedly in his ICU room.

She wants to talk to help others.

“For a long time, everyone wants to be happy, but it’s not worth it,” she said.

They also say they intend to prepay it, just as strangers are helping them now.

“We’ve already talked about what to do when this is over, how to take care of others, how to prepay it, and how to help the next family in need,” she said.

Jessica says she’s holding a virtual meeting with her husband’s team of doctors on Wednesday to see if anything else can be done.
