Baltimore police responded to a shooting Friday afternoon in an industrial area in southwest Baltimore.

The shooting occurred at Block 1200 of Barnard Drive in the Wilhelm Park neighborhood near Carroll Park, but the extent of injuries was not immediately apparent, a police spokesman said.

Police cars and ambulances gathered around a cluster of warehouses in the block, including one for the MPI Label System, which prints custom labels for food, beverages and other products, on Friday afternoon, according to the website. Police with guns were seen leaving the store around 4:45 p.m. Several employees sat in the parking lot waiting for the driveway to open so they could drive home.

MPI Label’s quality department employee Julie Barnes said she heard three gunshots.

“These weren’t the normal sounds of what was going on here,” she said.

Burns said she spoke with the victim and he left the building on his own.

“It’s too close to home,” she said of the shooting.

It’s unclear if police took the shooter into custody.
