New York City-In response to a stinging call, New York City officials saved lives earlier this month using potato chip bags and tape.

On July 7, police officer Ronald Kennedy and others found the stabbed in response to a call in Harlem.

“We knew immediately that we needed to seal the chest with a puncture wound. We don’t want air to get in and destroy his lungs,” said Kennedy. I told WABC.

He looked at a nearby deli and had an idea.

on Body camera video, Officer Kennedy can be heard telling fellow officers, “Bring a bag of potato chips now.”

Sounds like a strange request, but other officers did as he was asked.

Kennedy used his previous experience as an EMT to come up with a quick solution.

He emptied the chip bag, laid the victim on its side, and placed the empty bag on the stab wound. In the videoYou can see Kennedy taped around the bag to form a seal and wait for the EMS crew to arrive.

Another police officer on the scene said WABC There was an immediate change in the victims when the bag was taped.

The bag worked for the same reason that the chips remained crispy inside the bag-the air cannot penetrate the thin aluminum that lines the bag.

“It worked really well. We made the right call at the right time and were really happy with the result,” Kennedy said. Said..

The suspected puncture wound was arrested later that night. Victims are reportedly still recovering.
