Nashville, Tennessee. — A major explosion occurred downtown Nashville on Friday morning and is being investigated by police and federal authorities such as the FBI and ATF. The CBS-affiliated WTVF reports that an explosion was felt in most of Davidson County around 6:30 am.

“The explosion was serious,” police spokesman Don Aaron said in a briefing Friday morning. “We believe the explosion was a deliberate act.”

The three were taken to hospital for treatment, but officials said the injuries were not considered serious.

Aaron said a “dangerous device unit” had been dispatched to investigate the suspicious vehicle early in the morning when it exploded.

“The explosion associated with the vehicle occurred at 6:30,” he said.

The explosion damaged nearby buildings and shattered windows in the area as black smoke rose near Second Avenue near Church Street.
