At least one person was killed after a strong earthquake struck Acapulco, a resort town in Mexico, on Tuesday night.
The epicenter of a magnitude 7.0 earthquake was recorded about 10 miles northeast of the resort city. The strong earthquake rattled the town windows and rocked the buildings in Mexico City about 200 miles away.
according to Associated PressGuerrero Governor Hector Astudillo told reporters Tuesday night that a fall post at Koyuka de Benitez, about 30 miles east of Acapulco, killed one person.
Despite the deaths, many of the countries seem to have escaped serious damage.
Mayor Adela Roman of Acapulco later told Mirenio that “there was no serious situation,” but said that some buildings had been hit by gas leaks and collapsed walls.
Mexico’s President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador tweeted Tuesday evening that “there was no serious damage” as a result of the quake.
The quake also triggered a tsunami warning, which was later canceled.
