Madison County, Kentucky (LEX 18) — The Madison County Emergency Management Agency erroneously sent an emergency alert to residents on Saturday.

The following message was pushed around noon.

A few minutes later, the correct message about the Golden Alert was sent.

LEX18 contacted Dustin Heiser, Madison County Emergency Management Director, to find out what had happened.

“We were launching a golden alert for Madison County,” Heiser said. “When using the system to initiate an alert, some criteria were not checked and the default message was initiated.”

A third message was sent clarifying that the first two alerts were actually intended to notify people of the golden alert. Anyone who needs an explanation can call (859) 624-4787.

This is a developing story. Check for updates.
