Albuquerque, NM — The COVID Infusion Clinic at Presvitirian Kaseman Hospital has been offering treatment for remdesivir and bamuranibimab since December. Staff have seen how it helped reduce the burden on the hospital.

The outpatient clinic provides treatment that suits the patient.

“The antiviral drug remdesivir is for people with more severe COVID disease. These are people who need oxygen or may be hospitalized,” said Elizabeth, director of community health care.・ Holgin states. Monoclonal antibodies are a one-time treatment. This is for people with milder to moderate symptoms and requires another chronic symptom like asthma. “

Depending on the drug used, the patient can be treated for several days, with a single visit taking 30 minutes to an hour.

According to Holguin, some people have mild side effects such as fever and nausea, but most patients begin to feel better from day one. She also explained how the treatment helped the Presbyterian hospital.

“Counting the locations of Albuquerque in addition to Ruidoso, Clovis, Sokoro, Espanola, Tucumcari and Santa Fe, we saw 274 patients with Remdesivir and 561 patients with Bamuranibimab. What is really exciting is 274 Remdesivir. Going with the patient saved people more than 1,370 days of hospital stay, “she said.

She added that Bamuranibimab has helped reduce Presbyterian hospitalization by 70% since the start of treatment.

Most insurance covers treatment, but the patient must be referred to a healthcare provider.

We are building a website where you can introduce yourself without a doctor. Clinic staff will determine if you are eligible for treatment.

There is no date yet when the website will be up and running, but Holguin said it could be up and running soon.
