President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden honored the 2020 and 2021 Best Teachers of the United States at the White House on Monday.

The president was a special guest at the event, initially scheduled to feature his wife, who is also a teacher, and Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona.

“When you think about it, you know that beyond our parents, the most important people in the world-God is happy if we have them-are our teachers. “We are,” said Biden.

Prior to the president’s special appearance, the First Lady praised her teacher for educating her children during difficult times.

“You and teachers like you have found the courage and power to continue,” said the First Lady.

Juliana Urtubey, a special education teacher in Las Vegas, Nevada, and Tabatha Rosproy, a kindergarten teacher in Winfield, Kansas, received an apple-shaped award for being named Best Teacher in the United States.

The previously scheduled ceremony has been postponed due to a pandemic.
