The sitting priest is one of four whistleblowers in a new sexual abuse proceeding against the Vatican this week.
Jeff Anderson, a male attorney, says it’s the first time an active priest has sued the Holy See for abuse.

The allegations against the now dismantled Cardinal Theodore McCarrick stem from leading churches in New York and New Jersey before being promoted to Cardinal and moving to Washington, DC. Plaintiffs, including priests, have stated that they reported abuse before the 1990s. For that promotion.
The remaining three men say the abuse by Macarik occurred as a teenager. None of the plaintiffs have been identified by name in the new proceedings.
Anderson says all four plaintiffs were part of an investigation report released by the Vatican last week. Now he is calling on the Pope to end the secret culture that allowed the abuse to continue.
“Until truth, transparency and accountability exist, there can be no reconciliation and the long-term injuries to many will continue,” Anderson said at a press conference Thursday.
He begged the Church to publish all documents related to the investigation of years of priestly abuse.
