London (AP) — Prince William said on Monday that his grandfather, Prince Philip, was “ok” as the 99-year-old queen remained in a London hospital for rest and observation.

William was asked about Philip when he visited the Coronavirus Vaccination Center in eastern England.

“Yes, he’s okay, they’re watching him,” William said and winked.

Philip was admitted to London’s private King Edward VII Hospital on Tuesday after becoming ill. Buckingham Palace said Queen Elizabeth II’s husband is expected to stay in the hospital until this week during the “observation and rest” period.

Philip’s illness is not believed to be associated with COVID-19. Both he and the Queen, 94, received their first vaccine against the coronavirus in early January.

Philip, who retired from public service in 2017, rarely goes public. During the current blockade of the coronavirus in England, Philip, also known as Duke of Edinburgh, was staying with the Queen at Windsor Castle, west of London.

Philip married Princess Elizabeth at the time in 1947 and is the longest-serving queen in British history. He and the Queen have four children, eight grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
