Prisma Health suspending COVID vaccine mandate for employees, other healthcare systems shifting policies following federal judge ruling – Valley Stream, New York

Greenville, South Carolina (WSPA) – Prisma Health has suspended vaccine requirements for COVID-19 team members, but other healthcare systems have changed their policies following a federal judge’s decision.

The ruling is on the side of the Attorney General of South Carolina, blocking health care workers from federal vaccine obligations. However, an Upstate lawyer told 7NEWS, this order does not prevent private employers from requesting the COVID-19 vaccine.

Attorney General Alan Wilson’s stance on the mission is upheld by a federal judge, blocking the COVID vaccine mission for healthcare workers withdrawn by the Biden administration.

“If the hospital said, we rely on federal regulations to get you vaccinated.

Reckenbeil said that if you are a healthcare professional and have not yet been vaccinated, that does not mean you are off-hook.

“If the private employer, who has all the rights they do, makes vaccination a requirement for employment, it is unaffected,” said Lekkenvale.

Attorney Lekkenvale told us that the only change to this ruling would have to be made by the US Supreme Court:

7NEWS has contacted several other upstate medical systems about how this will affect them. You can find their reaction below.

Bon Secours St. Francis:

“”Federal Judge on Tuesday, November 30 Ordered to freeze federal COVID-19 vaccine requirements For healthcare professionals. This order does not prevent employers from requesting the COVID-19 vaccine. Therefore, Bon Secours advances the previously announced vaccine requirements. The COVID-19 vaccine helps keep employees and patients safe and reduces the chances of serious illness or hospitalization. Requests for exemptions are considered because of medical contraindications or religious beliefs that are held in good faith.“”

Sparthamberg Community Health System:

“On Tuesday, a federal judge issued a temporary injunction to prevent the federal government from demanding COVID-19 vaccination from health care workers. South Carolina has filed a lawsuit to suspend federal delegation. It is one of the 14 states that caused the disease.

According to South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson, the rules have been thwarted, but the government cannot force health workers to vaccinate. Therefore, SRHS will withhold the Medicare & Medicaid Service Center (CMS) COVID-19 Federal Vaccine Obligation Policy until this preliminary decision is finalized.

We will continue to monitor the proceedings while they pass through the federal court system. “

AnMed Health:

“As part of our commitment to patient and staff health and safety, AnMed Health implemented a vaccine policy in August prior to President Biden’s mission. As of today, 99% of teammates have fully implemented the policy. We are in compliance. We will continue to apply for vaccination or tax exemption in cooperation with the few remaining staff, but in light of recent court rulings, we will suspend or dismiss non-compliant employees. We will continue to monitor the development of courts and laws to ensure that our policies are consistent with all applicable regulations. “
