The 26th Project Giveback Thanksgiving Food Distribution Event is back this year with a new plan to help enforce social distance when meals are packed and delivered this weekend.

Events are usually held in DC Armory, but this year, small groups of volunteers gather in eight different locations in DC and Maryland to pack turkey and Thanksgiving side dishes.

“We now realize that we have to do more than ever,” said Ransom Miller III, the founder of the event.

He says he will support 2,700 families this year, thanks to donors who have stepped up between pandemics and other partner businesses such as UPS, DC Home Finance and Bailey Real Estate.

“We have worked with other organizations working throughout the pandemic, and during this time it is very important to be able to give back in a way that is important to us,” Miller said. ..

Temperatures are measured and other safety measures are taken to keep about 50 volunteers at each site safe and socially distant.

He states that this change has given him the opportunity to find ways to efficiently and safely expand and reach more families. The goal is to inform the community that the project giveback is focused on having a lasting impact to help families in need.

“We care and take action on that concern,” Miller said.
