Nashville, Tennessee (WTVF) —Tuesday night at Music City Center, a hearing was held on a speedway restoration plan and returning NASCAR to Nashville Fairgrounds.
Residents lined up on the podium, expressing opposition and support for Speedway’s restoration and refurbishment plans.
“I think this is a great opportunity. It’s a great opportunity for Speedway. It’s a great opportunity for the trade fair,” said NASCAR Hall of Fame driver Darren Waltrip.
Proposals have been made for the city to partner with Speedway Motorsports to operate and manage the extended Speedway at Fairgrounds.
The plan includes repairing railroad tracks, modernizing the facility for use in other events, and adding walls to mute the sound from the speedways. Opponents of the plan argued that more transparency was needed.
Next month, the fairboard will discuss the details and feedback we heard at the hearing.
