Riverside, California 2020-09-29 10:14:25 –

AUSTIN — After two polls last showed President Donald Trump opening a modest lead over Democratic nominee Joe Biden in Texas, a survey released Monday put the candidates in a tie as the race heads toward its final month.

In this combination of file photos, former Vice President Joe Biden speaks in Wilmington, Del., on March 12, 2020, left, and President Donald Trump speaks at the White House in Washington on April 5, 2020.

The poll conducted Sept. 25-2 by the Democratic firm Public Policy Polling, shows each candidate pulling 48% with the remainder unsure. Trump is drawing strength from white voters and those above age 59 while Biden scores well with voters under 45. Hispanics give the Democrat a near 2-1 edge and almost nine out of every 10 African-American respondents choose Biden.

The poll’s sample of 612 voters is comparatively small, which gives it a margin of error of about 4 percentage points.
