PUEBLO — Pueblo Police want to update a rule regarding criminals who run from them.
The department has a nuisance vehicle ordinance on the books but wants to include vehicles that escape from officers in the ordinance.
Under the proposed new rule, if a suspect eludes police in a vehicle and officers find that vehicle, the vehicle could be seized and impounded for up to six months, even if it doesn’t belong to the suspect.
“The whole goal is to where people are more cognizant of who they lend their vehicle to, who they let use their vehicles and in the same instance themselves what they do in their vehicles,” Sgt. Franklyn Ortega said.
The ordinance still needs to be approved by City Council.
