Two of Netflix’s most popular TV shows are now having a huge impact on fashion, with a surge in searches for specific items against the backdrop of the latest seasons in Crown and Queen’s Gambit.
This isn’t just Queen’s Gambit’s Beth boosting chess set sales, according to Stylight, a fashion, beauty and design search platform. “The costume designs of the show, inspired by the icons of the 1960s such as Ann-Margret, Natalie Wood and Audrey Hepburn, also made a name for themselves.”
The series began on October 23, with Checkcourt Stylight’s clicks exploding, up 383.39% compared to the month before its release. It may be partly related to cool weather, but the magnitude of the surge suggests that the program is also influencing.
Beth also wore a lab coat at the end of the season, with “white wool coat” clicks increasing by 131%, while turtleneck sweaters increased by almost 57%.
Meanwhile, the preppy “Lady Day” look is said to be “coming back.”
Crown Season 4 began on November 15th, and within a week of the show’s release, Stylight increased clicks on Diana Spencer’s major fashion items.
Clicks on pushybow blouses like the ones she chose to wear for her public engagement announcement increased by 108%. And dresses with collars, which she wore famously on Australia’s Royal Tour, saw a 50% increase in searches. Searches for pearl earrings also increased by 162%, but pink gingham pants worn at the show while roller skating at Kensington Palace increased searches for “pink gingham” by 35% within a week.
