Colorado Rapids midfielder UNES Namuri will be absent for 12 to 16 weeks to recover from ankle surgery.
26-year-old Namri has had a successful left ankle surgery in Amsterdam on June 6th and will continue to rehabilitate in the Netherlands.
“This is an unfortunate setback for Yunes, but I’m happy that the process went very well,” Rapids general manager Padraig Smith said in a club statement Tuesday. “Since the schedule was interrupted, it was a good time for Younes to undergo this surgery and fix the ankle problem that affected him throughout the beginning of the season.
“We are optimistic that he will rejoin the team in time to help him fully recover and promote another berth in the playoffs.”
Originally from Denmark, he has been in Rapids for the second year. As the only designated player in Colorado, he joined the team on a loan from FC Krasnodar of the Russian Premier League prior to the 2020 season.
He was injured by defeating Minnesota United FC 3-2 on May 8 after starting four games this season.
Namri scored two goals and four assists in 17 Colorado games (16 starts) in 2020.
