Brookfield’s Hidden Lake Greenway Trail was recently awarded the 2021 Project of the Year by the Wisconsin Chapter of the American Public Works Association.

raSmith worked with the Brookfield City Parks Recreation and Forestry Department to design sidewalks and provide project planning, landscaping, civil engineering, surveying and construction services.

The Hidden Lake Greenway Trail is part of the city’s vast Greenway Trail system, providing public access to the newly constructed Hidden Lake Park and a panoramic view of the lake (former quarry) and surrounding landscape. Provides a view shed. Previously, the site was inaccessible due to steep side slopes of up to 75 feet in some areas, created by topsoil from a closed quarry and requiring a significant amount of earthwork, filling, and restoration. did. Trail linkage is unique in that it connects the eastern part of Brookfield with the western part of the city by a recreational trail that is 0.5 miles long rather than a street.

The Hidden Lake Greenway Trail also won the 2020 Park Design Award from the Wisconsin Park & ​​Recreation Association.
