The cold winter weather in Vermont is no match for the picking of a group dedicated to enjoying the outdoors in a brave way, regardless of water quality.
Casmon Stream, the artist at Burlington, who hosts the Red Hot Chili Dippers, said: “We are never alone. We are always looking at each other’s backs, and it feels like a great way to get over this pandemic.”
The Red Hot Chili Dippers set foot on Lake Champlain every day, right next to the ducks.
Participants in the dip on Tuesday told NECN and NBC10 Boston that it was incredibly exhilarating.
“This is my third time and it’s getting better and better every time,” said Chilly Dipper Tanya Talamante.
“You can be at that moment, it feels great now,” said another chilly dipper, Sarah Gordon.
Groups rotate between different parts of the lake on different days, depending on wind and ice conditions.
“You go out and feel,’OK, I’m ready to start the day,'” said Elvira Trip, who took part in a dip from Perkins Wharf on Tuesday. “Super energetic, super happy!”
Dipper’s main motivation is to find moments of peace while spending time with both old and new friends. After all, why didn’t you feel a bond with someone after bravely confronting together for a few minutes in about 35 degrees of water on Tuesday?
Large chunks of ice are often something to deal with.
“Sometimes I feel like I’m in Margarita,” joked Jennifer Harris, one of the dippers.
Red Hot Chili Dippers is currently warming up local charities with a month of fundraising and a hot dip.
Throughout March, Monstream uses social media posts by her and other members of her circle to provide a variety of support to teens and young adults facing homelessness and other challenges. He said he would encourage support for Youth and Family Services.
You may have heard the old claim that cold is just a state of mind. For the Red Hot Chili Dippers, the condition-for some reason-is euphoric.
“We do it for joy,” Harris said of what motivates the group.
