Boston (CBS) —Jarren Duran isn’t the only Red Sox call when the team begins the second half of the 2021 season. Pitcher Tanner Houck has also been promoted as the team launches a four-game set against the New York Yankees on Thursday.
That news Comes from WBZ-TV Dan Roche, Houck reported to join the New York team on Thursday night.
This will be Houck’s second major league stint this season. The 25-year-old Lighty, Boston’s first round pick in 2017, was on the Red Sox opener’s roster in place of the injured Eduardo Rodríguez.
Houck made two starts in Boston earlier this season, scoring 4.35 ERA in 10.1 innings. He also emerged from the bullpen, allowing hits and runs while hitting two in the innings job against the Tampa Bay Rays. He is 3-2 and has 1.98 ERA and 1.098 WHIP dating back to last season’s Major League Baseball debut. He owns 2.05 ERA with 31 strikeouts in 26.2 innings as a starter in Boston.
Houck was 0-2, scoring 5.14 ERA in the 6th start of Triple-A Worcester this season.
It’s unclear if the hook will be a starter or a relief in this go-around with the Red Sox. No move has been announced in response to his promotion. However, young Lighty offers manager Alex Cora another electric arm as Boston seeks to maintain its lead in the American League East.
