Xander Bogaerts warms up before Game 6 of ALCS.

ALCS returns to Houston. In Houston, the Red Sox must win two games in a row to advance to the World Series.

The Red Sox lost games 4 and 5 to the Fenway Astros after taking the lead in the 2-1 series, losing 9-2 and 9-1, respectively. The Astros need to win one more time to win an American League pennant. If the Red Sox win the sixth round on Friday, they will force the seventh round on Saturday night.

Both Foxdesk analysts predict that ALCS will advance to Round 7. Alex Rodriguez and Frank Thomas prefer the Red Sox to win tonight, but Rodriguez sticks to the Astros with seven picks.

Nathan Eovaldi’s post-season career as a starter heralds the Red Sox’s chances of winning Game 6.

With five career starts, Eovaldi is 4-0 and ERA is 2.82. All five of these starts came with the Red Sox and won all five starts.

Friday is the third start after Eovaldi’s season in Houston. Eovaldi abandoned two runs in Game 3 of the 2018 ALCS with six innings before giving up three runs in Game 2.

The story of the MLB playoffs is that the bullpen of both teams are on a day of rest.

That’s important for both teams. The Red Sox have won at least five innings from the starting pitcher in the last four games, but Game 5 required the use of five arms from the bullpen. However, Garrett Whitlock, Adam Ottavino, or Josh Taylor could be Boston’s best choice for Game 6 innings. I also didn’t use Tanner Hooks that haven’t been pitched since Game 1.

Starting pitcher

The pitching matchup is a rematch of Game 2 where the Red Sox won 9-5.

If forgotten, that means Nathan Eovaldi will start for the Red Sox in a Friday match and the Astros will put Luis Garcia on the mound for them tonight.

Eobaldi was solid for most of Game 2. He started by throwing three scoreless innings and retired nine of the first ten Astros batters he faced. Eovaldi’s only problem came fourth. After making his first two batters in the inning, he gave up his walk to Jordan Alvarez, then hit three times in a row, bringing three runs to the Astros in that inning.

Eobaldi returned to the track in 5th place and retired the sides in turn. After giving up on the hit, he left in 6th place and ended the day with 5 hits, 3 runs, 1 walk and 5 1/3 innings with 3 strikeouts.

Game 2 was not the only appearance of Eovaldi in this series. He is now relieved to throw 9 times in Game 4. Eovaldi allowed a lead-off double to Carlos Correa because the score was drawn 2-2, but he deliberately walked and defeated two of the next three batters. Following a controversial non-strike three call, Eovaldi gave Jason Castro an RBI single. He finished the day by walking José Altuve at the next at bat. He was charged with three more runs in the innings.

Garcia got off to a rough start in the second game. He gave up the Grand Slam to JD Martinez in the first inning and walked the lead-off hitter in the second inning before being pulled out of the match due to a right knee injury. Batter Garcia scored a goal in Rafael Devers’s Grand Slam, ending Garcia’s day with two hits, three walks, two strikeouts and five runs with more than one inning home run.

With Framber Valdez pitching eight innings in Game 4, the Astros bullpen has been in the best possible use since the start of the series. So it’s no surprise that Garcia struggles again and he quickly wins the hook.

Lineup started

Following the low attack power in games 4 and 5, Red Sox manager Alex Cora made minor adjustments to the starting lineup. Hunter Renfroe, 14 to 1 on the plates in this series, fell to 8th place in the lineup. Renfroe was a hit at either the 6th spot (against left-handed) or the 7th spot (against right-handed) this postseason.

In Eobaldi’s pitching, Kevin Plawecki starts with a catcher instead of Christian Vazquez. The starting lineup for the Red Sox is:

1. Kyle Schwarber 1B

2. Kike Hernandez CF

3. Rafael Devers 3B

4. Xander Bogaerts SS

5. Alex Verdugo LF

6. JD Martinez DH

7. Christian Arroyo 2B

8. Hunter Renfroe RF

9. Kevin Plawecky C

For the Astros, their starting lineup remains almost the same. The only change from Game 5 is that Chas McCormick starts in the middle instead of Jose Siri.

The Astros starting lineup is:

1. Jose Altuve 2B

2. Michael Brantley LF

3. Alex Bregman 3B

4. Jordan Alvarez DH

5. Carlos Correa SS

6. Kyle Tucker RF

7. Yuli Gurriel 1B

8. Chas McCormick CF

9. Martin Maldonado
