Like many large companies, Renault is now considering post-pandemic work practices a year after many employees work from home rather than in the office. Ford and General Motors have also set the principles for so-called “hybrid” work solutions for people who do not have to work in the field every day.
This new hybrid organization for working with the Renault Group is voluntarily operated with the goal of maximizing face-to-face and telecommuting activities. It is based on the following principles:
- Increased flexibility in your personal work organization: The weekly organization between telework and face-to-face work is a minimum of two days of telework per week, with face-to-face work maintaining at least 20% of monthly work hours.
- Empowerment and Autonomy: Free organization of work during individual, collaborative, and face-to-face meetings with teams, based on individual goals.
- Respect for work-life balance: Respect the company’s working hours, breaks, and holidays (right to disconnect).
This addendum will extend the global framework agreement signed in 2019 to support transformation, including a rethinking of the Renault Group’s way of working. It also meets employee expectations for the potential mix of face-to-face and telecommuting, which has been strengthened since the health crisis, and improves the balance between personal and professional life.

In line with the July 9, 2019 Global Framework Agreement, the Addendum signed today meets the expectations of all Renault Group employees regarding remotework. This lays the foundation for building new everyday work styles that combine company performance with work-life balance. The pandemic has forced a significant proportion of employees to work in remote areas, and it is of utmost importance to ensure that workers’ rights are well protected. This agreement with the Renault Group is an important first step in setting high global standards and providing a framework for national / local negotiations on this issue. Walter Sanchez, Executive Director of IndustriALL Global Union, said he plans to approach the issue in the hope that other companies will follow this good example.
Signing this addendum paved the way for local implementation to develop agreements in all countries and to achieve the best balance between efficiency and well-being of local work.
Therefore, on April 13, France has already begun negotiations with social partners, defining the terms of this new hybrid working organization for French employees. In the coming months, other countries in the group will also define the terms of the addendum locally.
