Dayton, Ohio (WDTN) —The Travel Industry Pandemic, Agencies are reporting a car rental shortage along with higher prices.
AAA says that when you book your summer vacation, you may not want to leave your car reservation as a retrofit.
“When working with clients and members, it’s a good idea to check the availability of your rental car first, and you need flexibility,” said Micki Dudas, managing director of AAA Leisure Travel. ..
Demand is increasing, but supply is declining. Last year people didn’t rent a car, and the agency sold off much of their fleet. This year, there is a shortage of semiconductor chips needed by automakers. It produced a domino effect.
“Car rental companies are actually trying to build up their vehicles as consumer demand continues to grow, but that’s not the case yet,” Dudas said.
To fix rents, AAA says advanced planning is important.
“Don’t try to rent a car by arriving at the airport and walking,” Dudas warns. “For popular destinations like Hawaii, rentals will not be available throughout the state until after July 4th.”
People usually think of booking a car two months later, but AAA says it actually helps them book a car up to a year in advance.
“Reconfirmation is important. It’s not a one-time thing. Once you’ve booked, reconfirm and then reconfirm one or two months before your trip,” Dudas advises. I will.
Get ready to pay a little more for rental at an average double price.
“Some of these resort areas were four times more expensive,” said Dudas.
AAA states that offsite locations can be an affordable alternative to airports.
“Leaving the site can give you a price advantage because the car rental location doesn’t have to pay a portion of these airport rates,” Dudas said.
Please note that according to AAA, COVID restrictions may apply in certain locations while traveling.
