Washington (KMTV) — Elderly people in Iowa are currently tackling some major headaches when it comes to getting help with social security questions. On Wednesday, Iowa General Assembly Cindiaxne announced a new law aimed at improving the process.
Axne talked about how her office received hundreds of calls from Iowans, who was running into problems on the social security hotline.
In many cases, the pandemic closed local social security offices and did not receive those calls, so Iowans could not talk to anyone.
“This is a really simple bill. The Social Security Administration needs to allocate resources and staff to allow regular people to operate the phone during normal business hours, Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm. “It’s not that difficult,” she said.
Axne says these phones were the primary way for Iowans to reach out to distributors.
