Portland, Oregon (KOIN) —On Monday morning, authorities found that 14 animals had died and eight had been removed from the facility following reports of animal negligence near Scio.
The Lin County Sheriff’s Office has received information about animal negligence at Shimaneck Bridge Drive, east of Shio. The agent had been collecting information for almost a week before getting a search warrant and entering the area, enough to get rid of the abandoned animals.
Cows were of varying degrees of negligence, and some even died, officials said. There were some animals that had been ignored for quite some time. Some could not stand without help while standing in the carcass of an animal.
Fourteen animals were found dead, including 11 cows, 2 chickens and 1 dog. The sheriff’s office said it had seized six cows and two dogs, but one cow was unsuccessful overnight.
Veterinarians are working with agents to help guide animals on a healthier path, officials said.
Owner Lynette McConnell was arrested for 20 counts of first-degree animal neglect and transferred to Linn County Jail.
