Dan Newhouse, one of the few Republican congressmen to vote for the impeachment of Donald Trump in January, said: ready to move forward to the general election in Washington state, according to the Associated Press forecast.
The victory came on the heels of Peter Meyer, another Republican supporter of impeachment. lose his vote in Michigan.
Republican Lauren Culp, who is endorsed by Trump in the election, won the vote in Washington’s 4th congressional district, a close second to Newhouse. Republicans have the second highest number of votes 4 out of 8 counties. However, in some of the counties Newhouse won, Culp almost got twice as many votes.
Culp faces six other Republican candidates and will face the district’s only Democratic candidate, Doug White, in November’s generational election.
Despite his victories, Newhouse’s journey has rarely been smooth sailing. After the January impeachment vote, six Republican leaders in his district demanded his resignation.
He defended his position, claiming that he “made the decision to vote on the basis of my oath to support and defend the Constitution.”
On August 2, he won majority votes in three of the six counties that voted to resign.
