Tulsa, Oklahoma — Rev. Robert Turner, a compensation activist and leader of the historic Vernon AME Church, is leaving.
The minister made an announcement late Wednesday.
He will take up a new position as a minister in Baltimore after working for Vernon AME for at least three years.
Turner was a frank supporter of compensation for the survivors and descendants of the 1921 Tulsa race massacre.
He has announced that he has marched to the city hall every Wednesday for the past three years, asking city leaders to pay compensation.
Some of his announcements are written as follows: “God showed me another place he has to go … Vernon, you were awesome. Now to another place while I’m fighting for it We have a headquarters. “
