Spartanburg, South Carolina (WSPA)-A record number of drug-related deaths this year, the Coroner’s Office in Spartanburg County has sent a message about new drug trends.
According to coroners, 36 people in the county have already died this year due to drug overdose, and another 11 could die last week.
“This is now an obvious problem in our county,” says Spartanberg coroner Rusty Klevenger.
Friday’s Klevenger addressed one of the biggest drug problems he says we are facing now.
“There is a real problem with drugs that our citizens now consider safe,” said Klevenger.
He says the coroner’s office found a trend. A recreational drug disguised as a prescription or over-the-counter drug.
“They think that if it’s stamped correctly, shaped correctly, and has the right color, it’s manufactured by a pharmaceutical company. Now that’s not the case,” Clevenger says.
“It’s very toxic to your system, it kills you,” Klevenger adds.
He says people are affected in the age range of mid-teens to 60s, but the majority of drug deaths are in people between the ages of 15 and 27.
“Our young adults who don’t even suspect their parents are taking drugs, or someone about it, bought or thinks it’s safe to take the coins they made,” Klevenger said. I’m doing it. “
He asks the public to think before you take what someone gives you, even if it looks okay.
“Take some time. Check these pills. Do not take these pills unless you get them from a pharmacy, or if they are not prescribed by your doctor, or if you do not get them directly from a pharmacy. “Clevenger says.
