Boston (AP) — Rob Refsnyder hit a two-run homer in the third inning, and the Boston Red Sox defeated the Detroit Tigers 6-2 on Wednesday night to post their third series sweep of the season.

Jarren Duran and Alex Verdugo each added a two-run double as Boston won their eighth win in ten games. Michael Wacha (6-1) pitched 6 innings, enabling 2 runs, 5 hits and 7 strikeouts, helping the Red Sox improve to eight games, exceeding the season’s best .500.

Javier Baez hit a two-run home run on the Tigers, who lost nine out of eleven.

Tarik Skubal (5-5) continued 4 2/3 innings, allowing 6 hits and 6 runs with 3 walks and 5 strikeouts. He lost the last three starts.

Baez first pushed the Tigers forward, hitting Waka’s opening fastball into the seat above the green monster, and hitting six home runs in the season. It extended his consecutive hits to seven games. One night after he finished the double shy cycle.

Baez has hit three home runs in the last five games after hitting one home run in the last 45 games.

Reed continued to the third in which Durand drew the game, ripping the line drive to the left-wing corner where Christian Vazquez and Bobby Dalbec were won.

Refsnyder then recovered from the 0-2 count, lifted the flyball to the center left and hit the monster’s lips. Originally judged to be double, it was considered a homer after a brief review by the referee.

This drive has been Refsnyder’s first home in Boston since signing as a free agent in December.

Detroit had a runner in the corner in 6th place with no outs, but Waka escaped by defeating Harold Castro and Robbie Grossman before Spencer Torkelson lined up in the center.
