Rocklin Parents Say Students Forced To Teach Themselves, Call For Change In Policy – CBS Sacramento – Sacramento, California

Sacramento, California 2021-04-30 21:11:28 –

Loughlin (CBS13) – False-positive test results from the state-problematic COVID-19 lab have quarantined 400 Loughlin students for weeks before parents seek answers.

Tina and Rich Watts say it’s too late for their daughter Alexa. She was told to stay home after close contact with a COVID-19 positive student in a chemistry class.

Currently she is behind school and misses sports.

“I want to make a plan that doesn’t include this ridiculous thing,” Tina Watts said.

But they say they want to change from the county or district for other students.

“Our daughter gets a lot of support from us at home, but there are a lot of kids who don’t,” Richwatts said.

For Loughlin students, Watts states that no quarantine plans have been implemented without the “zoom class” option.

They say Alexa is now teaching herself while preparing for the finals and AP exams.

“You get the assignment by email, understand it, and it’s tested when you come back,” says Rich Watts.

Correspondingly, the district said:

“The Unified School District of Rocklin will develop a plan before students return to direct instruction in September 2020, and will update the CDPH kindergarten-to-high school reporting framework and guidance with the school district-wide protocol. Updated regularly. Students / staff members who test positive for COVID-19 or are exposed to a person infected with the virus will transition to distance learning during the quarantine period. Schools are in quarantine. Contact students daily. “

The Schoology online platform, especially for high school students, gives students access to and submits daily assignments and access to instructors. The extension of the deadline is given to students in quarantine for some flexibility.

These widespread quarantines are in the midst of false positives across state districts due to suspicious results from problematic state laboratories tracked by the CBS13 Investigates team.

The problem is now exacerbated as the children are packed into a 6-foot, spaceless classroom. Some students are worried that the next one will come.

“So I’m scared to sit right behind someone. Is it like they pull me out?” Said senior Julia Steiger.

Currently, there is no process at the county or state level to identify and clear false positives or allow exposed students to test negative and return to school.

According to state, federal, and county health guidelines, close contact quarantine should not exceed 10 days.

So why does Loughlin have a comprehensive 14-day quarantine policy?

The district said:

“The Unified School District of Rocklin welcomes all students returning to campus for full-day classes on April 6, 2021 and is outlined in the CDPH K-12 School Reopening Framework and Guidance on 10-Day Implementation. The 6-foot spacing requirement cannot be met. Quarantine policy. Therefore, students exposed to COVID-19 and in need of quarantine will move to distance learning for 14 days. “

The district says it will return to its 6-foot spacing requirement from a state where it can’t all be met, so they have to mandate a maximum.

“Our district has been postponed to the maximum extent because these children do not have a unified policy,” Watts said.
