Roswell bridge with “low sufficiency rating” to undergo repairs | News – Atlanta, Georgia

Atlanta, Georgia 2021-05-25 02:27:00 –

Roswell (CBS46)-The Metro Atlanta Bridge in need of repair will be closed for at least the next four months.

Starting Tuesday, June 1, part of Willeo Road, which runs over Willeo Creek, will be closed for a bridge replacement project, according to Roswell officials.

Located between the Cobb / Fulton County Line by Water Trail and Timber Road / Lower Roswell Road, the project will be completely replaced by a partnership between Roswell City and Cobb County.

The project is scheduled to be completed in the winter of 2021/2022. Weather conditions affect the repair timeline.

The existing bridge was old and was urged to be repaired. The bridge was built in 1960. Also, according to city officials, the bridge has a low reputation for sufficiency and is narrow.

The project will replace the bridge for vehicle traffic and add new multipurpose paths, sidewalks and new bike lanes to the bridge deck.

Officials said the new bridge would successfully link Roswell’s Riverwalk to Cobb County’s trail network and bike lane system.

Local traffic has access to the neighborhood of Inverness’ Riverview (by water trail) and Willeo Park. Passing traffic is rerouted using Timberridge Road, SR 120 / Roswell Road, and Willeo Road between SR 120 / Roswell Road and Riverside Road.

The estimated cost of this project is $ 2.5 million and the city of Roswell has a $ 1.2 million share.
