Colorado Springs — Cheyenne Mountain Zoo’s annual fundraiser, Run to the Shrine, will take place this weekend.
This 4-mile trail to Will Rogers Shrine of the Sun allows you to take a casual walk or through the zoo, where you can enjoy a variety of animal exhibits along the way. Participants can climb to nearly 1,000 feet before descending to the zoo, with stunning views of Colorado Springs.
Running to the shrine is the only time you can walk on the shrine road. Participants are free to start climbing. Access to Shrine Road is until 7:30 pm and zoo exploration is until 8 pm.
This race is a great route for competitive athletes, weekend warriors, casual pedestrians and families of all ages. If you have a tether or a jogging stroller with an automatic handbrake, you can also enjoy the race.
All proceeds will be taken care of by CM Zoo’s animals. This includes the breeding of endangered species on the ground, conservation projects around the world, and educational programs. Community fundraising activities like Run to the Shrine can help keep the zoo “run” because the zoo is not tax-supported.
