Sacramento County Weekly Vaccine Shipment Comes Up Short – CBS Sacramento – Sacramento, California

Sacramento, California 2021-02-24 01:47:41 –

Sacramento (CBS13) – Vaccine distribution has declined significantly in Sacramento County, even though other counties are receiving more injections.

Vaccine distribution may take some time in Sacramento County. This week, the county received 18% less vaccination than the previous week.

Sacramento teacher Taylor says, “I understand that each county has different assignments.”

She was finally able to take her first dose, but it wasn’t easy.

“Midnight every day. I checked Walgreens, CVS, Rite Aid, the county, and said they were all fully booked,” Taylor said. “It makes sense that you don’t get as much as LA County.”

But what about places like Kern County? Kern County received the same dose this week as it has 600,000 fewer people than Sacramento.

We asked Dr. Dean Blumberg, an infectious disease expert at the University of California, Davis, why.

“Vaccines are distributed not only with the population but also with other factors. In some counties, nursing home residents may be concentrated. They account for 39% of the deaths. The state covers these areas. Priority is given to counties with a high proportion of counties aged 75 and over or 65 and over, “says Blumberg.

Despite the county’s current vaccine shortage, Dr. Blumberg says distribution could increase soon.

“I’ve heard that more vaccines will be available in the coming weeks as production capacity increases and perhaps another vaccine is on board,” he said.

“We want as many people as possible to be vaccinated, so we can put this off,” Taylor said.

Blue Shield is a third-party agency that works with the California Public Health Service to allocate vaccine doses.
