Safety questions raised after Kansas City area dad hit by car outside Arrowhead Stadium – Wichita, Kansas

Kansas City, Missouri — A male family member and friend who hit a car outside Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday are calling for a change in security in the area.

CD Nelsen (49 years old) is under repair. His daughter, Samantha, said he had a head injury when he was attacked by Duviner Drive, but had no fractures.

“He’s talking, he’s awake, conscious, and sensitive, so he’s doing pretty well,” said Samantha Nelsen. “I would say he’s doing much better than everyone expected after he did something like this.”

Officials say Nelsen was struck shortly after the kick-off. Police said the driver remained on the scene and was being investigated for the disability.

“He was thrown at a fairly slow throw of over 30 feet,” said Bill Rush, a friend of Nelsen’s tailgate.

Nelsen drives a limousine on Game Day and hangs out with a group of rushes.

Rush said policy changes would require parking along Duviner instead of the former Lot J.

He said the roads near the entrance to the Truman Sports Complex would be crowded and lighter on the day of the match.

There are no pedestrian crossings in this area.

“The problem is that I was waiting for this to happen,” Rush said. “We want to prevent that from happening, but there is active traffic in every game from the moment the gate opens to an hour and a half or two hours after the game.”

Rush said it caught the attention of the chief.

The incident occurs five weeks after Wichita’s Stephen Hickle was killed in a hit-and-run accident about a mile away on the other side of the complex.

“I just see people running across the street, especially in those situations, I want people to be more cautious,” said Samantha Nelsen.

Rush’s group wants that too, and their tailgate buddies are back.

“I hope he’ll be back in the match on Sunday night soon,” Rush said. FOX4 raised these concerns to the Chief and contacted Missouri Police Department Kansas City. So far, no reply.
