Tucson, Arizona (KGUN9) — The Salvation Army offers the community a free Thanksgiving meal. From 11:00 am to 1:00 pm At the Orthodox Church of St. Demetrios Greece, more than 200 volunteers serve guests.

Volunteer Michael Miller said he usually aims for 1,000-1,200 meals for the community. Volunteers began cooking more than 150 turkeys donated to the Salvation Army over the weekend.

Volunteer Noel Decillet said it was exciting for people to meet in person, but they still follow COVID-19 safety precautions.

“It’s really all about the holidays to allow people to sit down and get together to some extent for Thanksgiving,” he said. “So it’s exciting to be back on this occasion, but obviously we need to be careful.”

There are live music in addition to the outside seats. You can also receive meals with a drive-through option.

And for volunteers like Timothy Grimes, attending an event like this is something he looks forward to every year.

“Serving people, serving communities, participating and making a difference. That’s what I enjoy most and see happy people eating.” .. “And make new friends-I’ve been volunteering here so I’ve made friends for 20 years.”
