Tucson, Arizona (KGUN) — Santa is back in Tucson and ready for a COVID-friendly visit.
Jane McCallum, General Manager of the Marshall Foundation, said:
The next three Sundays, Santa is in Maingate Square, sitting behind a plexiglass snow globe.
“All this was designed with children in mind and safety in mind,” said Santa Claus.
Everyone who visits must sit in front of Santa with a plexiglass in between.
“It takes pictures beautifully, but it’s safe, it’s a protective shield so no one needs to be afraid during a pandemic,” Santa said.
Santa is also at Reid Park Zoo.
Deborah Kerr, Marketing Director at Reid Park Zoo, said:
He sits outside near the zebras every night from December 3rd to 23rd.
“Last year we made a completely different setting for Santa. We were in the middle of a pandemic and Santa was on a sleigh about eight feet behind the masses,” Kerr said.
This year, the zoo has no separation between Santa and visitors. Anyone can sit or stand near Santa to take pictures and read the wishlist.
“It’s almost normal, and of course we monitor the situation every day for pandemics. When things change, we’re flexible and we’re in a new situation,” Kerr said.
Santa usually stops at hilly malls, but a spokesman says he’s not there this year.
There is the next Santa appearance:
- Santa at Reid Park Zoo, 6 pm-8pm daily from December 3rd to 23rd
- Santa in Maingate Square, every Sunday to December 19th, 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm
- * Santa at Foothills Mall, canceled
