Sarasota, Florida — If your school has active shooters, Sarasota officers are training for real-world scenarios.
The training was unknown to participating police officers until Friday morning, when called by a dispatcher into a lively shooting scenario at Southside Elementary School in Sarasota.
Police officers were forced to make swift decisions, just as they would in a real active shooter situation. There was a role player who played the victim and the suspect. The policeman had to find out where the archer was in the school.
Part of the training was a test to see how well law enforcement and emergency agencies could work together in an active shooter situation.
“If you were a U.S. police officer in 2022, you could be in the wrong profession if you weren’t ready. This is the most important task,” said Sarasota Police Captain Kenneth. Rainey says.
In addition to the Sarasota Police Station, members of the Sarasota Fire Department, Sarasota County School, and Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office delegation cooperated for the training scenario.
