Nashville, Tennessee (WKRN) — On Saturday, June 12, the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency sponsors a free fishing day. In other words, you can fish without purchasing a fishing license.
TWRA also makes it especially convenient for children to go fishing by stockpiling more than 20 ponds in central Tennessee and many more states.
Parents and their children can fish from the bank without having a boat. Some of these events also include door prizes and free meals for children.
“What we’re trying to do is take the kids out for fishing,” explained Ted Alphaman, TWRA Region 2 Reservoir Manager. “That’s all. It’s all about kids. We want them to feel the excitement of rolling up catches, big and small. So what we’ve done in the past week is a lot for kids to catch. We stock many of the reservoirs in these ponds with channel catfish, so they should chew on an empty stomach. “
“These public fishing events are really for everyone,” said Alftermann. “You don’t have to have a boat. You don’t need kayaking, etc. These are small, well-stocked ponds where you can store fish. Therefore, there is bank fishing around most of these ponds, Anglers can easily fish. “
