Greenville, South Carolina (WSPA) – Highway Patrol, South Carolina, said a man he wanted in connection with the hit-and-run of a Greenville County teacher on June 6 was detained.
South Carolina Highway Patrol said Manta Ray McMorris was arrested on Tuesday and charged with hit-and-run, reckless murder, and other traffic violations.
McMorris is booked at the Greenville County Detention Center.
A hearing is scheduled for him on Wednesday at 9:30 am
The crash occurred on Sunday, June 6th at around 1:14 pm on Sulfur Springs Road near the Pinsley Circle.
The 33-year-old Carli Brewer Soukup, a teacher at Mitchell Road Elementary School, was on a pedestrian crossing near the Swamp Rabbit Trail when a car driving north hit her before leaving the scene, soldiers said.
After her death Soukup’s husband started collecting money To improve the safety of the Swamp Rabbit Trail and support mental health counseling at schools in Greenville County.
