SC officials hope Janssen vaccine at community vaccination center will improve vaccination rates – Florence, South Carolina

Florence, South Carolina 2021-05-27 21:35:10 –

Richland County, South Carolina (WSPA) — According to officials, the Columbia Place Mall high-dose vaccination site received more than 19,000 COVID-19 vaccines.

Over the past six weeks, the site has seen an increase in daily vaccinations, officials said. “Opening this site from 7 am to 7 pm seven days a week has made it more convenient and more accessible,” said state epidemiologist Dr. Linda Bell.

She hopes more people will come to Columbia Place Mall to get the vaccine by switching to a single-dose Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) vaccine.

According to the state’s emergency management department, it can be administered 1,000 times daily in the field.

“There was a line at the gate waiting for a lot of cars to come here this morning, and it’s pretty stable all day long,” said Brandon Lavoguna, spokeswoman.

Authorities hope that the switch from Pfizer’s vaccine will increase interest in the site.

The local vaccination center is open daily from 7 am to 7 pm. No reservation required.
