Pasco County, Florida — The scallop season is well underway in Pasco County, attracting locals and tourists. It’s also a big boost to local businesses!

On Sunday, after spending a day playing with scallops, I saw boats coming in one after another.

“So we headed a few miles away from the slightly shallower Hernando. It wasn’t that hot. Then we went into deeper waters like 6 feet. It worked very well.” Said Paige Seede, a local scallop. I hunt every year.

Enjoying everything Florida offers is a fun way to get out and there are great rewards at the end of the day.

Adam Thomas, Director of Tourism on the Florida Sports Coast, said:

“You are looking down at the bed glass, you see these lovely little blue little eyes looking up at you, and you have your choice,” said Thomas.

This is a great boost for both the local economy and businesses.

“A day and a half ago there were probably 30 dive flags here, but they came out just outside the door, and scallop kits, nets, gloves and all sorts of other things, people also shrimp. I’m coming to pick it up, “said Melinda Magan, an employee of Bait Depot.

The Bait Depot is opposite Nick’s Park Boat Ramp and has already met locals and unpopular people this season.

“I think this year is a lot busier than last year. I think it’s also related to the red tide. Anyway, people are already here,” said Bate Depot owner Bill Colloxus.

For scallop hunting where red tides are a concern, the FWC recommends avoiding areas with moderate to high concentrations of algae.

Red tides change with the wind, so it’s a good idea to double-check your daily samples before going hunting. You can check the daily sample map of FWC in the following ways. click here..
