Rev. Willimon is well known for his memorable sermons. In the new documentary, you can see internally how Willimon goes from an idea to a sophisticated final product.

“A Will to Preach” aired on SCETV on Thursday, May 27th. Then, a 30-minute interview “A Conversation with Will Willimon”.Both can be seen scetv.org..

The documentary was produced by Susie Films, based in Davidson, North Carolina. Willimon, a professor of Christian missions at Duke University Theological Seminary, said it was “strange” to take the film crew to work as usual.

“On the opening shot, I’m in Duke’s classroom.’As you know, I always have the film crew follow me all day,'” says Willimon. The videographer “is a group of experienced professionals who have eased the oddities a bit,” he adds.

This documentary follows Willimon’s process of assembling a sermon, which includes not only clips of previous sermons, but also interviews with family, friends, and colleagues.

Subsequent interviews were filmed over several hours at his home church in Greenville, Bancom Street United Methodist, and Willimon talks extensively about his time at Wofford. -Wofford’s literary magazine, President Charles Marsh of The Journal.

“It was a disastrous experience,” Willimon said in an interview. “One of the things I learned from that is that I will never publish anything I don’t want to defend.”

Willimon was the Dean of the Chapel of Duke University and a professor of Christian missions for 20 years. He has been a bishop of the United Methodist Church’s North Alabama Conference for eight years and has written about 100 books. He is currently in his third term on the board of directors at Wofford University.

Willimon says he hopes this documentary will show the joy and challenge of being called by the preacher.

“If you don’t mind the risks, it’s a great profession,” he says. “I hope this gives us a privileged glimpse of how the preacher’s brain works and what God must do to come up with a sermon.”

Rev. Ron Robinson, a professor of religion at Perkins-Prothro Chaplain, said on Sunday morning that Willimon was arguably the most cited person in every sermon in the United States.

“I’m honored to be among the people who were lucky enough to have him as a professor,” says Robinson. “Like his students, I have been shaped by his scriptures, traditions, human struggles, and insights into the current culture. An era when preaching had suspicious influences and the concept of preaching was offensive. In, Will consistently demonstrates the importance of well-crafted sermons. ETV benefits all of us by focusing on his extraordinary talent as an important Christian communicator. This is a highly regarded public verification of his lifelong work. “
